Anonumos Art has recently commissioned five new works by Alan Page Smith of the five iconic Northumberland castles of Warkworth, Alnwick, Bamburgh, Dunstanburgh and Lindisfarne.(See image on the left)

Alan sought to capture the dark brooding nature of this wild countryside and coastline and the way these ancient man made structures have become so synonymous with the county. “I wanted to bring a new perspective to these much painted scenes. Usually portrayed with blue skies or golden sunsets I wanted to represent the more extreme aspect of this part of the world where the weather is wild and there is not only a sense of space but remoteness. It wasn’t too hard to imagine being someone 4 or 500 years ago seeing these dark, ominous, authoritative structures for the first time. I wanted to capture some of the apprehension one would feel on encountering them for the first time.”
